The DESI Extragalactic Dwarf Galaxy Catalog

Overview

This catalog presents a sample of extragalactic dwarf galaxies (\(M_{\text{star}} \lesssim 10^9 M_{\text{sun}}\)) identified in DESI DR1. The catalog includes galaxies selected from BGS, ELG, and the LOW-Z Secondary Target Program, spanning a redshift range of \(0.001 < z < 0.5\). However, due to differences in target selection criteria across these samples, the catalog is not uniformly selected. Stellar masses are derived using CIGALE (Boquien et al. 2019, Siudek et al. 2024) and optical color based prescriptions (Mao et al. 2024, de lo Reyes 2024).

Various cleaning cuts are applied on the DESI photometric catalogs to identify spurious sources (e.g., shreds of larger galaxies) and then remeasure their photometry. In two forthcoming papers (Manwadkar et al. 2025a,b in preparation), details will be provided on the selection, cleaning and method for remeasuring photometry. In these papers, we will also supplement this catalog with information on spectroscopic and photometric completeness, detected anomalies in imaging/spectra, and an analysis of quenched fractions as a function of environment.
