EmFit

Overview

EmFit is a Python-based emission-line fitting code for fitting H𝛽, [OIII]4959,5007, [NII]6548,6583, H𝛼, and [SII]6716,6731 emission lines in low-redshift (z ≤ 0.45) sources. It includes testing for extra components for [OIII], [SII], and Halpha. The code is available here. Refer to Notes below when using the catalog.

Notes

The catalog contains the fit parameters associated with Hb, [OIII]4959,5007, [NII]6548,6583, Ha, and [SII]6716,6731 emission lines. Please read about the following columns before using the catalog:

  • There are two different modes of fitting in EmFit: default mode and the extreme broad-line (EBL) mode. This depends on the width of the broad Ha component.

    • default mode fits have HB_OIII_NDOF, HB_OIII_RCHI2, NII_HA_SII_NDOF, and NII_HA_SII_RCHI2 set to zero.
    • EBL mode fits have HB_NDOF, HB_RCHI2, OIII_NDOF, OIII_RCHI2, NII_HA_NDOF, NII_HA_RCHI2, SII_NDOF, and SII_RCHI2 set to zero.
  • The estimated width values are corrected for the instrumental resolution using an approximated resolution element for each emission line window. The output SIGMA values after correction are associated with the *_SIGMA_FLAG columns as follows:

    • FLAG = -1: The component is not detected.
    • FLAG = 0: The component is resolved. The SIGMA value is equal to the estimated width value corrected for instrumental resolution in quadrature.
    • FLAG = 1: The component is not resolved. The SIGMA value is just set to the estimated width value.
  • There are two double-peak flags: OIII_DBL_FLAG and SII_DBL_FLAG. If this flag is True, the “narrow” and “outflow” component fluxes should be added for the total flux.

    • For OIII_DBL_FLAG = True: OIII_FLUX = OIII5007_FLUX + OIII5007_OUT_FLUX.
    • For SII_DBL_FLAG = True: The flux components for [SII], [NII], HA, and HB should be added.
